FREEHOLD, NJ- Although the start of summer is weeks away, now is the time to plan for summer travel. With summer break just around the corner, Acting Monmouth County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon reminds everyone to check their passports.
“As many countries require six months validity on a U.S. passport it is important to check your passport’s expiration date now,” said Hanlon, who oversees the County passport offices in Neptune and Freehold.
The summer months are the most popular time of year to travel. As passport processing typically takes four to six weeks, applying now will save travelers the aggravation of rushing to get a passport.
“Applying early saves money because service does not need to be expedited,” added Hanlon. “Now is the time to book a great summer vacation. Don’t miss out just because you don’t have a valid passport.”
Passport applications are accepted at two Monmouth County Passport Offices:
- Freehold – Monmouth County Clerk’s Office located in the Market Yard (south of Main Street). The hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Neptune – Monmouth County Connection at 3544 Route 66 (near Home Depot) The hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
