The collection consists of a scrapbook and loose newspaper articles on Monmouth County local history, 1994 to 2000, from the Asbury Park Press. A list of articles is available in pdf format.
The collection was gathered by Karen Schnitzspahn, who wrote about 25 of the 212 articles. Among other authors who wrote many of the articles is the late George H. Moss Jr., Monmouth County Historian. Other frequent contributors are Randall Gabrielan, Glenn Harbour, John P. King, and John Bailey Lloyd.

There is very little overlap in the topics covered in the articles. People and subjects include, but are not limited to, Morro Castle disaster; swimmer Gertrude Ederle; President U.S. Grant; Peter F. Collier; rumrunners; Croyden Hall; Dorothy Picard; Craig House; Ku Klux Klan; North American Phalanx; David Metz’s bicycle museum; applejack; Spy House; Philip Freneau; Jersey Devil; aviator Walter A. Brookins; President Woodrow Wilson; and radio pioneer Gugliemo Marconi.

This collection was donated to the Monmouth County Archives by Karen Schnitzspahn in July 2016 under Accession #2016-21.

This finding aid was created by Gary D. Saretzky on August 16, 2016. The index was created by Shelagh Reilly in July and August 2016, and updated in October 2016 with additions sent by Karen Schnitzspahn.

The Archives holds a large quantity newspaper clippings from the Red Bank Register, some of them on local history topics, and a copy of George H. Moss Jr.’s Twice Told Tales: Reflections on Monmouth County’s Past. (Sea Bright, NJ: Ploughshare Press, 2002), which reproduces some of his local history articles.
