The Monmouth County Park System was created by the Board of Chosen Freeholders in 1961. The Park System is governed by the Board of Recreation Commissioners, appointed by the Board of Chosen Freeholders.
The series is the official record of meetings of the Board of Recreation Commissioners, beginning with its first meeting on August 20, 1962. The records include information about the development, maintenance, and use of the parks in Monmouth County, including such major uses as the Monmouth County Fair.
Types of records include agendas, minutes, resolutions, correspondence, et al. In addition to
policy issues, there is a substantial amount of information pertaining to vendors and contracts
The records are open to researchers.
A box list with meeting dates is available for 1962 to 1993. No subject index has been prepared. Where microfilm is available, researchers will be asked to use the film. The volumes from 1962 to 1993 were transferred by James J.
Truncer, Director, Monmouth County Park System, in October 1998 (Accession #98-05), followed by subsequent transfers in April 2008, April 2009, July 2011, December 2012, April 2014, and May 2016.
