Mental Health Board records consist of minutes, publications, and reports, 1975-2005.
Following a recommendation by the Executive Committee of the Monmouth County Council of Parent-Teacher Associations in October 1957, the Board of Chosen Freeholders appointed the first Mental Health Board in November 1957. The initial purpose of the Board was to survey local needs, plan services to meet those needs, and make recommendations to the State Community Mental Health Advisory Council for state financial aid to help support local psychiatric services.
The Freeholders appoint a maximum of twelve volunteers to the Mental Health Board for three years. Board members advise the Freeholders on all relevant mental health activities that affect the residents of Monmouth County. The Board works with the Monmouth County Office of Mental Health in the Human Services Division and the Monmouth County Mental Health Association.
