HISTORY
President Thomas Jefferson established the Office of Coast Survey in 1807. The office, now called the US Dept. of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Ocean Science (NOAA), currently maintains nautical charts for 95,000 miles of shoreline, Great Lakes, rivers and bays, covering 3.4 million square nautical miles of waters.
SCOPE & CONTENT

The fourteen nautical charts in this collection include charts for navigation for areas of Raritan Bay, Hudson River, East River, Lake Champlain, Long Island Sound, and the Connecticut River. The charts show soundings, anchorages, obstructions, marked channels, etc.

This collection is open to researchers.
