2011 Joseph G. Bilby
Joe Bilby has taught military history at the community college level and lectured widely on Civil War and New Jersey history. He is currently part-time Assistant Curator of the New Jersey National Guard and Militia Museum in Sea Girt, New Jersey, and a free lance writer and historical consultant. Bilby is the author, editor or co-author of twelve books and more than 300 articles on New Jersey history and folklore, military history and outdoor subjects. His Monmouth-related books, some with co-authors, include Monmouth Court House: The Battle That Made the American Army; Asbury Park: A Brief History; Sea Girt: A Brief History; and Asbury Park Reborn: Lost to Time and Restored to Glory. Bilby’s several books on New Jersey’s Civil War regiments, notably Remember You Are Jerseymen: A Military History of New Jersey’s Troops in the Civil War, co-authored by William C. Goble, also feature information about soldiers from Monmouth County.
