Dr. Stone has been on the staff of the NJ Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Parks and Forestry, since 1987, and was Historian, Monmouth Battlefield State Park at the time of this award. Between 1993 and 1998, he was responsible for the Battlefield landscape restoration project and later was the project manager and crew chief for the stabilization of the historic Rhea-Applegate House on the site. Through his work at the Park and numerous journal articles and speeches, Dr. Stone has contributed immeasurably to the preservation and appreciation of this vitally important Revolutionary War battlefield. In addition to his work at the Battlefield, Dr. Stone co-authored the Allaire Village State Historic Site Master Plan in 1987 and has contributed to the development of other historic sites in New Jersey, including Liberty Hall and Rockingham.
